Easy navigation of Reports for Releases, Epics and Sprints

How to open Epic’s Burndown chart in just 3 steps?

If you are familiar with Jira Software reporting then you know that in order to open a report for an Epic you need to:

1. Open Jira project that contains the Epic → 2. Open the Reports in the left navigation → 3. Open the selected report e.g. Epic Burndown → 4. In a drop-down select the Epic you want to see

In Project TimeLine we flipped that around the Epic itself:

1. Open Project TimeLine that contains the Epic → 2. Expand the Epic → 3. In the section “Reports“ click on the selected report e.g. Epic Burndown

We find this approach more natural for managers. Looking around the schedule, checking the progress of Releases/Epics/Sprints - managers can easily dig into details and check both Jira's out-of-the-box reports and the new reports added by Project TimeLine - Workload (for Releases/Epics/Sprints) and Status Trend (for Releases).

Reports for Releases

For any Release you can choose to see different reports:

  1. Status Trend

  2. Workload Report

  3. Status Chart

Status Trend

The chart shows the trend of the status - measured weekly from the start date until the current date.

  • X = % done

  • Y = % project buffer consumption

In the example below the Release started well with 0% of the buffer consumed while the work progressed.

Once the work reached 15% done any progress stopped which means the team stopped working on this Release.

The Release was left behind schedule with all of the project buffer consumed. Then the team started working again and work progressed to 36%.

Workload Report

Workload report takes the planned velocity and the hours needed for the unresolved issues until the release date and distributes them to the assignees.

For each assignee of your team will show you: how much work they have already done and how much they will be loaded to close the unresolved issues.

In the example below Yoanna has closed 64h and based on the planned velocity of 2h and the days left until the release date, will be able to close another 58h. In order to meet the deadline, the rest 38h will be an overload for her and that is why it is shown in red.

Status Chart

Status Chart report will show you how risky is for your Releases not to be delivered on time.

Each Release is represented with a dot. Depending on the color of the zone where the Release is, you can see how risky it is that it is not delivered on time.

If you hover on a Release dot, you will get more details.
